With the job market recovery in full swing, there’s a good chance you’ve got a job interview on your schedule sometime in the future. And if it’s been a while since you sat down in the interview chair, the last place you want to realize you’re rusty is when you’re in the hot seat.

At One Tech Engineering in Minnesota, our technical recruiting services can help you get your head back in the game so you can take advantage of the current job market. We’re breaking down some of our best advice for protecting your interests during the interview process in today’s post. 1.   Study Ahead and Come Armed With Questions.

During most interviews, you’ll be given the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the company or the position. For far too many candidates, this is a missed opportunity that could end up saving them a lot of trouble down the road.

Think about all the things you learn about a company or a job over the years that don’t get advertised in the job description and frame your questions accordingly. What is the work culture like? What is the turnover rate for the position? Be sure to ask about things like raises, work-life balance, and upward mobility.

2.   Watch Out for the Remote Work Bait-and-Switch.

During the pandemic, many employers moved to a partially remote schedule. But be aware that what’s currently offered as a remote hire opportunity could later be moved to an office position. If you’re looking at a remote opportunity, ask the recruiter about the likelihood that the position you’re applying for will remain a remote one after the pandemic ends.

3.   Don’t Expect a Call Back.

There once was a time when you could expect a recruiter to let you know where you are during the hiring process and contact you once the position has been filled. But these days, more recruiters are skipping that final step due to concerns about litigation or even an abundance of candidates and very little time.

4.   Be Prepared for Ageism.

Although hiring discrimination based on age is illegal, a candidate’s age could still come into play during the hiring process with many hiring recruiters, and it can affect candidates as young as their thirties. That’s because in their efforts to cut costs, many employers are eliminating more skilled candidates for younger, lower-paid hires.
